What is Bisphenol A anyway?
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used primarily in the production of many plastics and resins. BPA is found in so many everyday products – including CDs and DVDs, electronic equipment, automobiles, sports equipment, reusable food and drink containers, and medical devices – it would be impossible to avoid outright. BPA is often used in protective liners of food containers, in water and infant bottles, and in other food packaging. We can reduce exposure to BPA for our families by doing some of the following:
- Avoid microwaving food and beverages in polycarbonate plastic (#7) containers
- Reduce use of canned foods
- Use glass, porcelain or stainless steel containers, particularly for hot food or liquids, when possible
- Use BPA-free baby bottles and sippy cups
